NPR reports Mitt Romney’s 2010 tax return shows he made $21.7 million dollars, and paid 13.9 percent in taxes. He’s rollin in it.

Datebook: November 8 – “Led Zeppelin IV” Released 40 Years Ago

The fourth album by the English rock band Led Zeppelin was released on November 8, 1971. No title is printed on the album, so it is generally referred to as Led Zeppelin IV. Upon its release, Led Zeppelin IV was a commercial and critical success. It may be most notable for featuring the famous song, “Stairway To Heaven.” The album is one of the best-selling albums worldwide at 32 million units. It has shipped over 23 million units in the United States alone, making it the third-best-selling album ever in the US. In 2003, the album was ranked 66th on Rolling Stone magazine’s list of “The 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.”

The Humane Society Holiday Bazaar and Bake Sale is Saturday from 9 to 2 at the Calloway County Library on Main Street. Bring donations Thursday from 10 to 5. Bring home baked goods and preserves, crafts, and new gift items. Note the donation day change since the Library is closed Friday for Veteran’s Day.

UT Martin’s Piano Ensemble performs a concert tonight at 7:30 at Trinity Presbyterian Church, 145 Hannings Lane. Faculty pianists, Delana Easley, Elaine Harriss, Scott Roberts, and Johnathan Vest perform – “The Stars and Stripes Forever” together. UTM students present works by Wilberg, Carl Maria Von Weber, and Poulenc during the 50 minute program.

Murray State University’s Department of Art and Design annual Art Auction starts with a preview at 7 p.m. Friday, November 18th. The auction of Work by faculty, area artists, alumni and students begins at 7:30 in Clara M. Eagle Gallery, 6th Floor, Doyle Fine Arts. Proceeds fund scholarships and the visiting artist program.

The Human population just hit seven billion this morning.

NPR reports just two centuries after the world population was 1 billion, we’ve now hit the 7 mark. Some are worried about overpopulation while others contend many hands make light work.

Kentucky~     Some local Amish really don’t like that orange warning sign. Fulton is trying to take out the trash.   OVC football scores are in. The Department of Education wants to track alternative schools. Gubernatorial candidates face off in their last debate tonight.

Tennessee~ The state is trying to figure out what to do with wild hogs (the animal, not the movie).

President Obama’s tour bus will run across rough political terrain in North Carolina this year.

Most high school students are chronically tired from juggling school, sports, homework, chores, friends and family.

NPR hears how the typical high school senior gets less than seven hours of sleep on school nights, but they need a great deal more.

KENTUCKY~ The Ohio River Bridge (Wickliffe-Cairo) is back open. McCracken officials will listen tonight to public comments on a proposed coal-2-liquid plant and they voted to fund MSU’s new Paducah campus. MSU loses Head Basketball Coach Billy Kennedy to Texas A&M. An Amish teen drowned in a pond. National Democrats are closely watching Kentucky’s Governor race. Attorney General Conway accuses Marathon Oil of price gouging.

TENNESSEE~ Democrats are renewing efforts to extend the state’s unemployment. A new study finds the state’s schools aren’t producing enough tech grads. Several counties are eligible for disaster unemployment benefits.

The top Libyan opposition official is stopping by the White House today.

NPR reports Transitional National Council Prime Minister Mahmoud Jibril’s goal is to persuade US officials to recognize the TNC as the legitimate representative of the Libyan people — and to give it some of Khadafi’s frozen cash.

KENTUCKY~ Harrah’s Casino-Metropolis parent company Caesar’s Entertainment donates $100k to local Red Cross efforts. Parts of US-60 are reopened.
