28 de Noviembre, written out as Veintiocho de Noviembre, is a town of roughly 5,300 inhabitants in southwestern Santa Cruz Province, Argentina. The town is near the border with Chile, not far from Puerto Natales. Its main economic activity is coal mining. 28 de Noviembre was officially founded on November 28, 1959, on the second anniversary of adoption of the provincial constitution, when a decree merged several settlements into one town which was named after the date of foundation.

Tomorrow at 6 p.m. Christian County Public Schools Parent University hosts Pre-K Reading Night at Lacy Elementary including story time, activity and snack. Kids who attend four meetings receive a free book. Parents who attend four meetings with their children are entered into a drawing for a Nook color e-reader, and more. See Christian.kyschools.us.

The Downtown Paris Association and the Paris-Henry County Heritage Center present the exhibition, Trees on the Square, at the Heritage Center, 614 North Poplar Street. It’s on display tomorrow through December 18. Use the Market Street Entrance. Tuesday through Saturday hours are noon to 6. Sunday hours are 1 to 4.

Friday at 7:30 p.m. the Jackson Purchase Dance Company’s 20th Anniversary Production Season opens with Cinderella: A Story/Ballet performance at Murray State’s Lovett Auditorium. Adult tickets are $8. Also, see about 500 artworks exploring the theme “Why Dance?” created by students in 8 schools in the region.

It’s Friday, March 4.

Paris celebrates Mardi Gras tomorrow with a ball at the Paris Convention Center that benefits the Paris-Henry County Heritage Center.  The Barons provide dance music for the semi-formal event including a New Orleans inspired meal.  Tickets are $35 at the Heritage Center.    Social hour begins at 6:30 with dinner at 7.  Call 731-642-1030 for information.

Murray State’s Athena Festival, a celebration of women composers, winds up this evening with Come Into My Parlor, An Evening of Parlor Songs featuring MSU Faculty. It starts at 7:30 p.m. in Performing Arts Hall of the Doyle Fine Arts Center near the corner of 15th and Olive.

Paducah’s  Markethouse Theatre’s Third Annual Curtain Call Auction is tonight at 7:30.  Tickets are $20 and include beverages and light hors d’oeuvres.  Bid on cameo roles in the musical Annie for a show in June as well as a variety of entertainments, excursions, wine tastings and more.  Call 270-444-6823 for tickets.

It’s Monday, November 29.

The MSU Clay Club has its Winter Ceramics Sale Wednesday and Thursday, from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. in the Curris Center Rocking Chair Lounge. Shop for Handmade pottery and sculpture.

The Paris Henry County Heritage Center exhibit “Trees on the Square” opens tomorrow and runs through December 19.  Hours are Tuesday through Friday, noon to 6, Saturdays 10 to 6 and Sundays 1 to 4.  Enter via the Market Street Parking Lot behind the Center at 614 North Poplar.

The Carson Center in Paducah collects boxes of cereal for the Paducah Cooperative Ministry today through December 17th.  The donation bin is inside near the Box Office, open Monday through Friday 10 to 5.  Also, ticket holders for shows may bring donations to performances.

The American Red Cross has a two day blood drive at Murray State’s Curris Center, tomorrow and Wednesday from 9 to 3.  The Curris Center is on Chestnut Street. Schedule an appointment at redcrossblood.org.
