US soldiers are training Afghan soldiers to take over bomb diffusion duties.

NPR reports as US troops are preparing for a reduction in troops in Afghanistan, more Afghan soldiers are being trained to diffuse the insurgent weapon of choice.

Kentucky~ Prisoners will work in state parks. They can also get alcohol there apparently. A Fort Campbell soldier settled in his police brutality case. Soldiers received Purple Hearts yesterday.

Tennessee~ TennCare could see massive losses.

Murray State’s Department of Accounting resumes its Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Service Friday.  The noon to 4 p.m. free tax assistance, first come, first served, continues Friday, February 18,  March 4, March 25, and April 8.  Go to Murray State’s Business Building South, Room 353.  If you need help knowing what to bring, call 270-809-4193.

The Kentucky State Parks around us offer Valentine’s parties this weekend.  Lake Barkley has a dance and dinner with Syndicate of Soul Saturday.  Kentucky Dam Village has a Sweetheart’s Buffet Saturday with several entrees.  Pennyrile Forest has a Not So Newly Wed Game at 7 p.m. Saturday.  And Kenlake offers a romantic candlelight dinner in Aurora Landing Restaurant.

Buddhist monk Tsering Phuntsok offers a conversation on Love and Compassion Monday, Valentine’s Day, at 3:30 p.m. in Mason Hall at Murray State.  Phuntsok shares a Tibetan Buddhist perspective and speaks of his volunteer work in Dharamsala, India, the exiled home of the Dalai Lama.
