NPR reports a long lost tropical-like fruit which grows in our temperate climate is a little known treat found throughout 26 states.

Somali piracy has grown into a multimillion-dollar criminal enterprise. Rarely a week goes by that pirates don’t attack or seize a ship.

NPR reports on the business-end of piracy, where pirates share profits and even distribute incentive bonuses.

Gubernatorial hopeful Phil Moffett gets endorsed by a national libertarian group. So the New Madrid fault earthquake in the early 1800’s wasn’t as strong as people thought.

TENNESSEE~ Jobless rates stay the course, but Montgomery County is hoping for 500 more. GOP/Dems spar over hospital fees.

KY~ A shooting in Hopkinsville over the weekend claims 1 woman; injures 2. Calloway County swipes Livingston Schools’ superintendent; so they plan to shop for a new one. McCracken County’s proposed budget includes employee raises. Livingston County’s $4mil super public office building breaks ground. Republicans UNITE! The ($64k-a-day) special session begins.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

KY~ An empty barge tow smacked the Cairo Bridge. Lake Barkley is slowly draining. Paducah’s Police Chief wants mounties. That’s no salesman… It’s a census worker! Former Senator Wendell Ford likes Jack. Rand is not a huge fan of Mitch. Not only does Kentucky (so far) not have a budget, but it took a $45mil hit in tax revenue.

TN~ Flooding has crippled much of Montgomery County’s farmland.The Clarksville city workers will pick up your trash if you stack it by the road. Democrats worry Republicans are eying the state worker bonus. The Senate passes voter citizenship check. The DUI-ignition lock bill is on Bredesen’s desk.

KY~ Paducah’s cool with Sunday alcohol sales at temporary events and may spend $1m on new vehicles. Police bust the (alleged) culprits who burgled Heath High and Middle Schools. MSU procrastinates on the domestic partner debate. Expect delays on I-24 near Paducah today. Christian County’s Emergency Manager is retiring and their health department hopes to construct a $2.5m annex. We’ll find out today who will oversee elections since Sec ‘o State Trey is in the running. Beshear will call the General Assembly back when he darn well feels like it.

TN~ Montgomery County Schools will request a property tax hike. Henry County nabs over $1m in Race to the Top funds. A proposed law that would close access to a list of who can carry loaded handguns has (probably) failed. The Senate is about to vote on a bill that admittedly does nothing>25 MPH speeders could face $500 tickets.

IL~ African-American students may be more likely to be suspended/expelled than whites.
