As Irene ramps up for landfall, the East Coast braces for a wild ride.

NPR reports Irene has weakened slightly but set its sights on North Carolina and the rest of the Eastern Seaboard.

Kentucky~ Murray High School and Calloway County duke it out tonight. Murray State’s Board of Regents discusses the schools diversity plan in Hopkinsville.  Paducah and McCracken County consider tying the knot.  Local counties step into the Apple-age with eWarrants. This year doesn’t look good for the tobacco crop.

Tennessee~  Clarksville”s City Council stands up to the Mayor over her last minute votes.

Many students drop-out regardless of interventions.

NPR reports that despite concerted efforts to keep some students from dropping out of school, many do so anyway.

Kentucky~ Paducah will take funds for the Greenway trail. Paducah also gets a new Renaissance Director. A Henderson County man is charged in paper carrier death. A Murray State football player is headed to the NFL. A man escaped jail and the immigration police (sneaky, sneaky). State politicians disagree on the US debt crisis solution (you don’t say). Officials debate the rights of the homeless to vote, though most don’t anyway.

Tennessee~ Clarksville school’s will be rezoned. Reelfoot Lake advertises its sunsets (they must be pretty).

Nashville, TN’s Magdalene program offers prostitutes an opportunity to get drug-free and off the streets.

NPR reports the program’s housing, therapy and a self-sustaining small business allow the women it serves to heal, make money and gain respect.

KENTUCKY~ Torrential overnight rain adds to flood worries (no additional damage reports). Gov Beshear sends in some sandbagging troops after warning about price gougers. WKMS surveys Calloway County storm damage from the air. A landslide in Lyon County has been partially cleared from KY-93.  Madisonville OKs Sunday alcohol sales (+tax). Richie Farmer ponies up his furlough money to charity. US Rep Whitfield tours the region today.

TENNESSEE~ Montgomery County schools are off to a late start. Jostens Publishing in Clarksville expects to add +200? jobs.

KENTUCKY~ Murray Police connect 4 more to this week’s home invasion. 5 Trigg County men publicly apologize for a 2008 Memorial Day sexual assault. Area police are searching for a man –> wanted on meth-related charges. A write-in candidate will challenge McCracken Clerk incumbent Jeff Jerrell. The public can comment tonight on a planned Henderson County coal gasification plant. Beshear: driveby texting is now illegal.

TENNESSEE~ Henry County’s budget still needs to shed a half-mil.
