NPR reports the city of Iquitos, Peru has become a giant, open-air lab for the study of dengue fever spread by mosquitoes.

Kentucky~ 200 temp jobs will be available in western Kentucky for flood clean-up. The trial for an accused baby smotherer has been postponed. A Paducah man is arrested for making meth. A state program is helping college drop-outs get back into school. Police may not arrest you for your minor crime anymore (but you will get a fine).

Tennessee~ Gov Haslam signed a bill to extend unemployment benefits.

Robot Battles Sparks Kids’ Interest in Manufacturing

NPR reports manufacturing businesses try to attract the next generation of workers with gladiator-like robot fights.

Kentucky~ The Ohio River is expected to swell to “normal” levels over the next couple of days. Paducah Police warn residents about a possible scam. Many small historic towns are in danger of fading away. Two top politicians haven’t given money back that they made while they weren’t working.

Tennessee~ A Clarksville woman is attacked with a sword and folding chair. One is killed and another is hospitalized in a head-on car wreck in Clarksville. The Henry County Medical Center thinks they can make around $1 million next year.

Illinois~ Harrah’s has reopened (hooray!).  Lawmakers cut $1.6 billion from Gov Quinn’s budget. The  Senate panel approved measures to end workers’ comp.
