Big Pharma gets a do-over…

NPR reports the FDA isn’t pulling any punches while they reevaluate weight loss drugs previously denied because of side-effects. Sure you’ll grow a third ear, but at least you’ll be skinny!

Kentucky~ Paducah and McCracken County are still considering a merger.  Local counties get some cash for recreational trail programs. Felons may get the chance to vote.

The trial of the ‘underwear bomber’ begins amidst questions of the defendant’s ties to other terrorists.

NPR reports Anwar al-Awlaki, the recently killed American-born terrorist may have had a hand in the Christmas day bombing attempt.

Kentucky~ Two Amish men found guilty for not displaying the orange caution signs. Conway receives an endorsement from the NRA.  The General Fund numbers are higher than expected.

Tennessee~ Tennessee Tax sales are way up.  The state is holding a huge bond sale.

Stephen Colbert discovers Grover Norquist would sacrifice his grandmother to fire ants before approving a tax increase.

NPR reports the GOP has long resolved to refuse tax increases, while Democrats continue to crow over what are thought to be “chinks” in the no-new-tax armor.

Kentucky~ The McCracken County Jail is looking to improve security. Amtrak in Fulton might pick you up at home soon. There will be lanes closed on I-24 starting next week. Brent Burke has been released. There are more fireworks stands this year. Elderly are targeted for a “grandparent scam”.

Illinois~ Gov Quinn needs to create a new budget.

Trials are set to begin tomorrow for New Orleans policemen charged with killing two during Katrina aftermath.

NPR reports that six years after the alleged police brutality incident, trials will finally begin for officers charged in largest police abuse case in modern New Orleans history.

Kentucky~ The Lake Barkley State Park Beach is closed because of floods and e-coli. Western Kentucky farms are now eligible for flood assistance. Brent Burke is expected to be released today.

Tennessee~ Many state schools could see pay raises.
