July is a time for fireworks…and new laws…and new taxes.

NPR reports holiday fireworks accompany new crops of state laws addressing everything from the death penalty, to immigration, to health care, to yoga.

Kentucky~While fireworks are fun, greater minds remind us not to blow ourselves up. The National Guard Band is playing throughout western Kentucky for the holiday. State Police intend to step up enforcement of DUI’s this weekend. Gov Beshear has been named the nation’s best education governor. Rand Paul says we need a balanced budget amendment.

Tennessee~ Clarksville finally finalizes the final new Power Board. SBA says there haven’t been many disaster aid apps from the state.

Is shaken baby syndrome blamed for babies’ deaths too often?

NPR reports Norman Guthkelch, the doctor who is credited with first observing the condition, questions the free nature with which the syndrome is blamed for killing babies.

Kentucky~ There will be no alcohol in Reidland. Calloway County Middle School has a new principal. A city engineer says Paducah’s floodwall held up well.  A gubernatorial hopeful is angered by dis.  The Asian longhorned beetle threatens the state’s forests.

Tennessee~ Clarksville’s Power Board may be revamped. Those who need energy assistance help will have to wait until October.

FBI agents have arrested a notorious Boston mobster after years of searching for him.

NPR reports ‘Whitey’ Bulger was arrested in Santa Monica, CA after having spent 16 years on the FBI’s most wanted list.

Kentucky~ A man has escaped from jail in Paducah. A Paducah pair are caught hiding meth in their kids’ swing. LBL is putting on a food drive. Murray is getting a Dunkin’ Donuts (YEEAAHH!!). Senators McConnell and Paul react to Obama’s  Afghanistan plan by warning against ‘inflexiblity’ and wanting more respectively.

Tennessee~ CDE Lightband’s budget has been approved.

Is it wrong that junk food ads target teens?

NPR reports the government wants junk food ads to quit targeting kids not only on t.v., but also online, in schools, and in stores.
