KENTUCKY~ Earlington voters end prohibition. A 5-car wreck this morning shut down KY-58. McCracken County authorities search for a knife-wielding robber. MSU’s Curris Center will be back open today after things got a little steamy. The Madisonville-North Hopkins County High School band is invited to play @ New York’s Carnegie Hall. Oak Grove’s longtime police chief gets fired. The (acclaimed) editor of the Madisonville Messenger is retiring. Lower temps may stave off some tree pollen-caused allergies. The state will pick up your tab if you take the GED.

TENNESSEE~ A Houston County fire station burns to the ground (irony!?). One proposed bill wants to add an extra tax to soft drink sales, and another wants to protect teachers (who allow students to decry theories of evolution).

So-called deadbeat parents, usually dads, have long been a conundrum for the law.

NPR reports now they are the US Supreme Court’s legal problem.

TENNESSEE~ TVA invites people to come tour a nuclear plant. Bill to restrict collective bargaining for teachers passes one House committee, goes to another.

Obama nominates one of his top lawyers… and it’s another lady!

KY~ Paducah’s dreamy (thunder)dome needs permanent toilets and officials there want to trade in the old Lone Oak City Hall for a road project. Boaters be warned: high water and debris! Baseball and Senate superstar Jim Bunning will miss his Republican cohorts.

TN~ 350 Clarksville businesses damaged; Riverside Drive and area schools re-opened. FEMA has already approved over $4mil in flood victim assistance claims. It smells of Arizona: the legislature votes tonight to crackdown on proofing voters’ citizenship.

Let the wild rumpus (debate) start!

KY~ GPEDC hires a 28-year-old for $160k. Trigg County’s alcohol sales top $73k in March. Oak Grove’s mayor is denied a pay raise. West Kentucky is under the economic development microscope. Trey & Jack will both oversee the Commonwealth’s fraud-ridden elections. Beshear warns of impending financial doom (if no budget passes).

TN~ The Tea Party will interrogate 8th District candidates tonight. 2 bills stall in the House: super-speeder / traffic camera. Republicans spare pre-kindergarten programs from the potential cutting block.

They’re s’posed to strike a match around noonish.

KY~ Paducah’s cool with Sunday alcohol sales at temporary events and may spend $1m on new vehicles. Police bust the (alleged) culprits who burgled Heath High and Middle Schools. MSU procrastinates on the domestic partner debate. Expect delays on I-24 near Paducah today. Christian County’s Emergency Manager is retiring and their health department hopes to construct a $2.5m annex. We’ll find out today who will oversee elections since Sec ‘o State Trey is in the running. Beshear will call the General Assembly back when he darn well feels like it.

TN~ Montgomery County Schools will request a property tax hike. Henry County nabs over $1m in Race to the Top funds. A proposed law that would close access to a list of who can carry loaded handguns has (probably) failed. The Senate is about to vote on a bill that admittedly does nothing>25 MPH speeders could face $500 tickets.

IL~ African-American students may be more likely to be suspended/expelled than whites.

KY~ The weekend storm downed some area trees and flooded several Hopkinsville streets. Paducah’s Quilt Show is deemed a success. The Reidland-Farley Fire board is patient. There will be some traffic congestion in Lone Oak over the next few days. MSU cops plan roadblocks over the next 10 days. Hopkins County Schools axes 23 jobs. The state begins to canvas the Commonwealth’s internet connections.

TN~ An (alleged) hammer-wielding Clarksville murderer is captured in a barn.

IL~ Metropolis votes tonight on helping fund upcoming Harrah’s concerts.
