Weekend Energy Preview 5/28

Here’s what’s in the mix for this Saturday night’s Weekend Energy. This week’s show is so raw and spicy, it’s like sliced up sashimi with two shots of wasabi!

Quadrat Beat – Back in The Game (Original Mix) feat. Kyla – Quadrat Beat is indeed back in the game, at least on Weekend Energy anyway. This breaks wizard was a staple for the genre as much as he was on this show, but the rest of the genre caught up with his level of of quality production. Complete with rip-roaring vocals from Kyla, this song rocks as a comeback and I’ve thrown it in mix as the opener. Other good stuff by Quadrat Beat: Muse, Make You Dance and Hive. Check’m’out!

Hey Champ – Cold Dust Girl – See this week’s “Discovery” below.

Mischa Daniels – Where You Wanna Go (New Vocal Radio Edit) feat. J-Son – I’m not really familiar with Dutch House producer Mischa Daniels, Where You Wanna Go is catchy and explosive. J-Son’s vocals combined with upbeat lyrics carry the song, perfectly mixed, of course, by Mischa. This is a huge club song, guaranteed to be a smash this summer. Check out the awesome music video.

The Killers – Mr. Brightside (Nicademass Remix) – Yeah The Killers go way back. I figured this dubstep remix would be terrible and shlocky like some of the other variations of this song, but it turned out much, much better than I could have imagined. It’s got a slow build-up and sounds similar to the original mix until about a minute in, where the floor just drops out and the whole thing lands in a giant alligator-infested swamp. Drop this, now.

Hey Champ

Cold Dust Girl by Hey Champ isn’t a new release, but it was new to me this week, same with the band. Cold Dust Girl is quick, syrupy and refreshing. It’s like a stack of pancakes on a back porch with a tiny dog nearby. The chiming guitar riff that just leaps into the song every now and then perfectly compliments the easy going drumbeat and intricate synths. Check out their website, where you can download their new single Anything At All. I’m digging the wordplay and the floor stomping, but well-thought out beat. Hey Champ is a refreshing discovery, and just in time for the great summer weather.

Almost Made It

I almost put My Ways by MAY68 in the mix this week. MAY68 was one of my favorite finds last summer and it’s been almost as long since I’ve played them again. In addition to My Ways, check out The Prisoner. Both awesome… and one of them will be in the mix next week!

Second Hour Rewind

The second hour rewind is the previous week’s first hour. Featured artists include Yeasayer, Wynter Gordon, Dead C.A.T. Bounce and No Logo!

“Crank up your stereo, bust out the strobe light and kick up the bass.”
