Datebook: May 6 – Bob Hope performs 1st USO show 70 years ago

Bob Hope performed his first United Service Organizations (USO) show on May 6, 1941, at March Field, California. Hope’s USO career lasted half a century, during which he headlined approximately 60 tours. For his service to his country through the USO, he was awarded the Sylvanus Thayer Award by the United States Military Academy at West Point in 1968. Click here to visit Bob Hope’s website.

The Pennyrile Area Development District Board of Directors meets Monday at noon at the PADD office, 300 Hammond Drive in Hopkinsville. Lunch starts at 11. The speaker is Ron Crouch, Director of Research and Statistics with the Kentucky Education and Workforce Development Cabinet.

Stuff a Truck with Cleaning Supplies for Area Flood Victims. Items need to be new and unopened, including bleach, mops, buckets, brooms, rakes, sponges, paper towels, garbage bags, insect repellant and sunscreen. Bring to the Paducah Power System Parking Lot at 1500 Broadway from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday and Tuesday.

Lone Oak High School FFA hosts a Doggie Day Spa tomorrow from 9 to 1 in the agriculture shop on the Delaware Street side of campus. It’s $5 for large dogs, $3 for small dogs for bath, blow dry, bandana and treat. Dogs must be leashed and have current vaccinations.
