Every year, May 3rd is a date which celebrates the fundamental principles of press freedom; to evaluate press freedom around the world, to defend the media from attacks on their independence and to pay tribute to journalists who have lost their lives in the exercise of their profession. It’s Tuesday, May 3

Purchase Area Senior Games open next Monday at Murray State’s Stewart Stadium then fan out to locations throughout the Purchase District. A one-time non-refundable $6 registration fee brings the 2011 tee and entitles participation in all events, except for bowling and golf which require additional fees. Hopkinsville Art Guild and the City of Hopkinsville host the Derby Arts Festival Saturday. It’s free and open to all from 10 to 2 inside Bradford Square Mall, 4000 Ft. Campbell Boulevard. The Belmont Elementary School Choir, the combined bands of Hopkinsville Middle, North Drive Middle and Christian County Middle schools, and the Fourth Dimension Dance group are among the entertainments.

Murray State University’s Clay Club’s end of the semester sale is nine to three Tomorrow and Thursday in front of Price Doyle Fine Arts Building, featuring pottery and sculpture.
