Datebook: April 18 – Longest professional baseball game 30 years ago

The Pawtucket Red Sox and Rochester Red Wings began the longest professional baseball game in history 30 years ago.  It lasted It lasted for 33 innings over eight hours and 25 minutes. It set numerous records in baseball history, and featured future hall-of-famers Cal Ripken, Jr. and Wade Boggs.

It’s Monday, April 18

Land Between the Lakes National Recreation Area offers family activities this Saturday that are fun and helpful. There’s Canoe and Kayak Cleanup at Energy Lake Dam from 8:30 a.m. to noon.  Meet there and help collect trash and recyclables from the banks of Crooked Creek Bay on the Cumberland River.  Lifejackets required; paddlers must provide own boat and paddle.

Tomorrow at 7:30 p.m. there’s a free concert of New Music at MSU in Performing Arts Hall of Price Doyle Fine Arts. 

There’s an American Red Cross blood collection today from 12:30 to 6:30 p.m. at Lone Oak First Baptist Church at 3601 Lone Oak Road in Paducah.  Also, The Paducah Donor Center is open today from 11a.m. to 6 p.m.; tomorrow from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.; Good Friday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.; Saturday from 7 to 11 a.m.  The Center’s at 4635 Falconcrest Drive in Paducah.  Call 270-442-9141 for Thursday hours.
