Weekend Energy Preview 4/2

Here’s what’s in the mix for this Saturday night’s Weekend Energy. This week’s show is so loud, it’s like the cataclysmic roar of an alpha lion fish.

Kito & Reija Lee – Broken Hearts – The song beings with a heavy slam bam bass by Kito and then kicks up with Reija Lee’s razor shap vocals. This song is short, but fills the room. Kito may best be known for producing dubstep tracks, so the indie-pop mash-up is really interesting. This works best, in my opinion, on the track This City. Check out the whole “Sweet Talk” EP from Diplo’s Mad Decent label. Here’s a minimix on Soundcloud.

Ira Atari – No Deal (and) Back to Zero – See this week’s “Discovery” below.

The High Dolls – Disco – Hands down one of the best emerging musical groups of 2011. They have reinvigorated the electro/rock genre. Their EP “C’est De La Merde” is frantic and diverse. Disco is a great example, I’m also fond of Legendary and the epic Light of Life. For a heavy dose of snarky lyrics, whirring electro synths, guitar solos and frenetic basslines – The High Dolls.

Bill Posters – Hold On (Aquasky Remix) – I’ve become a fan of the triple crossover between breaks, dubstep and drum and bass. Throw in some airy vocals and you’ve got an amazing crock pot of delectable audio. Hold On is sludgy and drippy, but contained – like some kind of lava lamp. Wobble away!
