Today on the Front Page, I talked with Ed Cole of the Transit Alliance of Middle Tennessee about how high speed rail might effect the region.

Building a high speed rail network is a project the Federal Railroad Administration likens to the 50 years it took to establish the interstate system. The federal government has already granted states nearly five billion dollars for railroad infrastructure development. Kentucky’s put in an $84,000 share of a three state feasibility study on a rail corridor from Louisville to Atlanta.

Cole said some major issues transportation officials are considering are how to make high speed rail competitive with air travel, and how to fund the projects into the construction phase.
