Datebook: March 3 – The Star-Spangled Banner becomes national anthem 80 years ago

It’s Thursday, March 3.

Tomorrow the Ice House Gallery of the Mayfield Graves County Art Guild opens a new show titled You’Ins, featuring works by Paducah artists Todd Birdsong, Michael Crouse, Teri Moore and Randy Simmons.  There’s a reception from 6 to 8 tomorrow evening.  The Gallery is at 120 North 8th Street.

John Charles Chasteen of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill faculty speaks at Murray State tomorrow.  His topic is a global history of cannabis.  His presentation is at 3:30 p.m. in Faculty Hall Room 208. Chasteen is a cultural historian of Latin America whose work has explored topics ranging from guerrilla insurgencies to the history of popular dance.

Ring of Fire:  The Johnny Cash Musical Show opens at the Badgett Playhouse tomorrow with a special performance benefitting an exchange student attending Murray State. Tomorrow’s show starts at 7 with half price tickets and a silent auction.  The Badgett Playhouse is in Grand Rivers.  Call for tickets at 888-362-4223.
