Belgian author Nicolas Ancion lectures at Murray State Thursday. Ancion’s topic is “Belgian literature and the New Creative Opportunities of Blogs and Network-Writing” Ancion’s lecture is 4 to 5 p.m. Thursday in the Curris Center Theatre with a reception and book signing to follow in the Commonwealth Room. The community’s invited.

The Hotel Metropolitan celebrates Black History Month with Grandma’s Recipes – Soul Food Sampler Saturday morning at 11. Donations are requested. The Hotel Metropolitan is at 724 Jackson Street in Paducah. It’s the first hotel owned and operated by and for African Americans in Paducah, and hosted great jazz musicians like Duke Ellington in its heyday.

There’s a Skywarn Weather Spotting Class Thursday at 6:30 p.m. in Freed Curd Auditorium of the Industry and Technology Building at Murray State. A Paducah National Weather Service officer teaches the 3 hour class which is free.
