Datebook: February 1 – National Freedom Day

This week a guest artist from Frankfort, Germany performs a flute recital in Performing Arts Hall at Murray State.  Betty Nieswandt’s performance starts at 7:30 p.m. Thursday. Hear works from the Baroque period through the modern era.  Murray State’s Stephanie Rhea, flute, joins for a duet and Angela Wu, piano, performs with Ms. Nieswandt.

Fort Donelson National Battlefield in Dover, Tennessee hosts an encampment Saturday and Sunday.  Interpretive activities between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. both days tell the story of the 2nd Iowa’s charge against Fort Donelson and the Confederate right flank on February 15, 1862.  Visit nps.gov/fodo to confirm weather conditions and schedules.

The Paducah Jazz Ensemble’s Sweetheart Dance is February 12th.  Hear standards from the golden jazz age, starting at 8 p.m. at the Robert Cherry Civic Center, 2701 Park Avenue.  Tickets are $10.  Email paducahjazz@gmail.com to reserve.
