The 112th Congress convenes this week with Republicans  in control of the House for the first time since 2006. Some observers see a striking resemblance to the House  in 1994, when a big Republican surge ended 40 years of Democratic rule in that chamber.

~NPR reports the new Republican wave may have learned something from their predecessors.

KENTUCKY~ Paducah’s WKCTC plans to grow despite budget cuts. Murray’s hospital is studying area Alzheimer’s and dementia and plans to participate in a med-school program. TENNESSEE~ Clarksville Mayor Kim McMillan will be sworn in today and former mayor takes over as head of the city’s cable provider. Two new laws go into effect.
