Weekend Energy Preview 12/25

leave a comment »

Here’s what’s in the mix for this Saturday night’s Weekend Energy. Don’t miss the highly anticipated Dubstep Christmas Special. Santa’s decked out his sleigh with massive subwoofers, cruising back to the North Pole with basslines so low it’ll rattle your stockings! Santa loves three things: milk, cookies and dubstep!

Example – Kickstarts (Bar 9 Remix) – The Bar 9 remix takes a sort of upbeat song and does a 180 degree audio faceplant on it, making an exceptional, super catchy opener and a fairly intense music video.

Skrillex – Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites – See  this week’s ‘Discovery’ below.

Emalkay – When I Look At You – One of my all time favorite songs, a truly mind-blowing tune. Simple and yet complex. If you don’t believe me, you haven’t heard it yet.

Jack beats – U.F.O. (K-Hole Riddim). This extraterrestrial monster is upbeat and bangin’. It may thoroughly trash your subwoofer. Be warned.  (Cool underground video)

(After the jump read this week’s Discovery and what Almost Made It)

Probably one of the last great E.Ps of the year, the recent release by the young L.A.-based electro-dubstep wizard, Skrillex. Check out the short sampler below if you want your ears to melt off. I’ve got the title track, “Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites” in this week’s mix, but the album itself is a diverse blend if heavy dubstep, razor-sharp electro and indie house. Skrillex, aka Sonny Moore, was put on the cover of Alternative Press’ 100 Bands You Need to Know, he’s recently signed to Deadmau5′ label, and this E.P. pretty much dominated Beatport’s web site when it came out. Yeah, so he’s an artist worth knowing about. The E.P. just released on iTunes, so you can pick it up there – it features other artists worth knowing about, namely Foreign Beggars and Noisia. You can also download his first E.P., My Name is Skrillex, for free on

Almost Made It

Dubstep Santa

I love this video. A lot. It was my inspiration to do the special. There are a couple reasons its not in the mix: I don’t have a British iTunes account and the rest of the mix is THAT good. Nevertheless, enjoy the hilarity of Santa bouncing in the woods. If you ROFL’d like me, you’ll like their new sequel, “Filthy”, which I recommend, nay, implore you to check out.

A Stocking Stuffer

Kung Fu Dubstep

Here’s a little extra, but you can only watch this between 1 a.m. and 3 a.m., inebriated to taste. There are few things in life as fine as the marriage of dubstep and kung-fu. Linen, wine, cheese… those are all boring compared to the fragrant and walnut-flavored style of the video below. At the right time of day, this will be the greatest thing you will ever watch – slightly better than Dubstep Santa.

Second Hour Rewind

The second hour rewind is the previous week’s first hour. Featured artists include Deadmau5 & Wolfgang Gartner, Magic Pop Hotel, Markus Schulz and Familjen.

“Crank up your stereo, bust out the strobe light and kick up the bass.”
