Bipartisan talks on the debt ceiling continue today as the deadline approaches.

NPR reports members of both parties will meet with President Obama today to try and reach a deal on the debt ceiling, and prevent the first ever government default.

Kentucky~ The weather for today… is HOT, BLISTERINGLY HOT!! The Paducah Symphony Orchestra has found a new director. A semi-truck hit an Amish buggy and killed a toddler. A visiting Job Corps student drowned in Lake Barkley. Coal workers donate large sums to politicians. Police say they wrote 21,000 seat belt tickets during a two-week crack down. The US Army is bringing murder charges against Brent Burke.

Tennessee~ Goodyear in Union City is shutting down. Gov Haslam plans to be ‘more proactive’ with the General Assembly for the next fiscal year. TVA is trying to help reduce energy costs for customers. A West Tennessee group is answering questions about construction.

Stephen Colbert discovers Grover Norquist would sacrifice his grandmother to fire ants before approving a tax increase.

NPR reports the GOP has long resolved to refuse tax increases, while Democrats continue to crow over what are thought to be “chinks” in the no-new-tax armor.

Kentucky~ The McCracken County Jail is looking to improve security. Amtrak in Fulton might pick you up at home soon. There will be lanes closed on I-24 starting next week. Brent Burke has been released. There are more fireworks stands this year. Elderly are targeted for a “grandparent scam”.

Illinois~ Gov Quinn needs to create a new budget.

Is it wrong that junk food ads target teens?

NPR reports the government wants junk food ads to quit targeting kids not only on t.v., but also online, in schools, and in stores.

Trials are set to begin tomorrow for New Orleans policemen charged with killing two during Katrina aftermath.

NPR reports that six years after the alleged police brutality incident, trials will finally begin for officers charged in largest police abuse case in modern New Orleans history.

Kentucky~ The Lake Barkley State Park Beach is closed because of floods and e-coli. Western Kentucky farms are now eligible for flood assistance. Brent Burke is expected to be released today.

Tennessee~ Many state schools could see pay raises.
