Datebook: January 17 – Betty White Turns 90

Betty White was born on January 17, 1922. She’s an American actress, comedienne, author, and television personality with a career spanning over seven decades. She may be best known to modern audiences for her television roles as Sue Ann Nivens on The Mary Tyler Moore Show and Rose Nylund on The Golden Girls. She currently stars as Elka Ostrovsky in the TV Land sitcom Hot in Cleveland. She’s won 7 Emmy awards (was the first woman to receive an Emmy for game show hosting), and received 20 nominations. She’s the only person to have an Emmy in all female performing comedic categories. Don’t you wish you looked that fabulous at 90? Happy Birthday Betty!

It’s Tuesday, January 17

A new “Book to Movie” book club meets for the first time this Saturday at noon at the Calloway County Public Library. Michael Connelly’s “Lincoln Lawyer” will be this Saturday’s featured book and film. The club will meet one Saturday each month. Stop by the library’s circulation desk to add your name to the book group list and to pick up a copy of the book.

Children ages six to twelve can learn fun and exciting science concepts at WKCTC’s Friday Night Science, beginning this Friday from 5 to 7. The series runs through March. This week’s class is Understanding Electricity. The fee is $20 per class. To register, call 534-3335.

The McCracken County Public Library offers a therapy dog program at 5:30 tomorrow night. Visit with the dogs and learn how to treat working therapy dogs when you meet them in service. Kids are welcome. For more information, call the library at 442-2510.
