Thomas Mitchell Morris, Sr. was born on June 16, 1821 (and died on May 24, 1908). Known as “Old Tom Morris,” the Scottish native was a pioneer of professional golf. He designed several golf courses with modern greenskeeping. He introduced the concept of top-dressing greens with sand, introduced managing hazards and yardage markers, widening fairways and greens and standardized the golf course length at 18 holes. Happy birthday Old Tom!
