Kentucky Congressmen Sends Support Letter
Kentucky’s Congressional delegation sent a joint letter in support of Kentucky’s request for a presidential disaster declaration. First District Representative Ed Whitfield visited western Kentucky this week. WKMS will have an interview with Whitfield tomorrow on The Front Page.
If the President were to declare a major disaster, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) will designate specific areas eligible for assistance and announce the types of assistance available for state and local government recovery expenses. According to FEMA, the Federal share of expenses will always be at least 75 percent of the eligible costs.
“Many communities have sustained damage beyond their ability to manage on their own,” said Whitfield. “After touring the area affected in my district, I and the rest of Kentucky’s House delegation are in unified agreement that a major disaster declaration is necessary at this time.”
Information on disaster relief and resources will be posted on Rep. Whitfield’s official website, under the ‘disaster relief’ link on the right side of the homepage as it becomes available.
